The rumours about Sandro Tonali’s potential departure from Newcastle this summer have been getting louder recently. According to Talksport, Manchester United see him as a great option as they plan to rebuild their midfield section, and Manchester City view him as a good alternative, should their pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson prove fruitless.
However, it is strongly believed that the Italy international would rather return to his homeland, than sign for another Premier League club.
Having won the 2021-22 Serie A title with AC Milan, Tonali joined Newcastle a year later for a reported fee of around €60million. He has undoubtedly established himself as a high-class Premier League midfielder, and played a major role as the Magpies won the 2024-25 Carabao Cup.
But things obviously aren’t going too well for Eddie Howe’s team, who sit 12th in the league rankings at the moment and face a serious struggle to qualify for any European competition next season.
Tonali apparently wants to leave, and with two years left on his contract, it may be the last chance for Newcastle to get the full market value for the services of the 25-year-old.
