According to multiple sources, Ibrahima Konate is on the verge of reaching an agreement over a new contract with Liverpool. It is very close, with minor details over bonuses the only issue remaining to be ironed out. The talks were put on hold for a few days as the Merseysiders focused on their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain – one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in Konate – but with that now over, the negotiations are expected to progress fast and conclude successfully in the coming days.
Apart from PSG, the 26-year-old centre-back was heavily linked with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich throughout the season, but at this stage, it seems his heart is set on staying at Anfield and increasing his trophy collection, already consisting of five pieces of silverware.
Konate remains a very important player at Liverpool – arguably their only centre-back in his prime years. He’s been a regular starter alongside captain Virgil van Dijk, who turns 35 in the summer, for most of his time at the club.
