Luis Enrique insisted that Paris Saint-Germain have an obligation to win their Ligue 1 clash with Lyon on Sunday in their quest to retain their top-flight crown.
After reaching the Champions League semi-finals against Liverpool in midweek, PSG return to league action at the Parc des Princes just a point clear at the top of the table.
In Friday’s only game in Ligue 1, Lens kept the pressure on Luis Enrique’s side with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Toulouse, in which Ismaelo Ganiou netted a 91st-minute winner.
PSG have the luxury of two games in hand over their chasers, though they do still have to play Lens in what could be a potential title decider on May 13.
Luis Enrique’s team have been handed a 98.2% chance of finishing top of the pile in 2025-26, though he believes that if his team want to achieve that goal, then they must win their next three league matches, with Nantes and Angers to come after Lyon.
“Winning is an obligation for us. And that will still be the case against Lyon on Sunday,” Luis Enrique told reporters.
“Lens won on Friday, so we need to aim to win our next three Ligue 1 matches to get closer to what we want to achieve.”

But following their progression to the Champions League final four, in which they will face Bayern Munich, PSG’s hectic schedule has become even more congested.
Their clash with Lyon marks the start of four games in the space of nine days, with the first leg against Vincent Kompany’s side coming at the end of that stretch.
“You have to know how to manage the squad. We’ve got a lot of matches coming up,” Luis Enrique said of managing his squad during that period.
“We’re used to playing a lot of matches, and we’re doing our best to be competitive in every game whilst keeping a close eye on the players’ fitness.”
After PSG’s win over Liverpool in the second leg at Anfield, which clinched a 4-0 victory on aggregate, they have reached the semi-final of the Champions League in five of the last seven years, including each of the last three in a row.
But Luis Enrique acknowledged the difficulties his side faced against Arne Slot’s team. Liverpool had 17 shots in the second half of this match, after having just four in the opening 45 minutes, which generated an expected goals (xG) total of 1.97 overall.
“The standard in the Champions League is so high,” the Spaniard said. “You always have to bring everything together, attacking well and defending well.
“If there’s no balance, it’s difficult. I think what we showed against Chelsea and Liverpool reflects what we showed at the start of the season.
“But the takeaway is that we can be competitive at any time. There’s an incredible energy between the fans and players. That connection is genuine, and it makes us stronger.”
Lyon, meanwhile, occupy fifth in the standings but know a victory could propel them into the Champions League places, should the results around them go their way.
They are unbeaten since signing off for the international break with a defeat to Monaco, following up a draw against Angers with a triumph over Lorient last time out.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
PSG – Ousmane Dembele
After his midweek double in the Champions League against Liverpool, Dembele will enter this clash with confidence as he looks to continue his recent run of fine form.
As in his 2024-25 Ballon d’Or-winning season, Dembele has started the new year with a flurry. Alongside Bamba Dieng, he is Ligue 1’s joint-top scorer in 2026, netting eight times.
He has scored in each of his last two Ligue 1 matches against Lyon and could score against the same opponent in three consecutive matches for the first time in the top flight.
Lyon – Endrick
Endrick has been a player reborn since making the loan switch to Lyon from Real Madrid, and he will be hoping to have a huge say against the defending Ligue 1 champions.
Only Lamine Yamal (12) and Yan Diomande (nine) have been involved in more goals than Endrick’s eight (three goals, five assists) among players under 20 in Europe’s top five leagues in 2026.
MATCH PREDICTION: PSG WIN
Lyon are the side PSG have faced the most under Luis Enrique, among those against whom they have a 100% winning record in all competitions, winning all six of their meetings.
None of the last 10 Ligue 1 games between PSG and Lyon at the Parc des Princes have ended in a draw, with the Parisiens winning eight times (L2). This could also be PSG’s 600th home victory in the top flight if they get the job done.
But with that comes pressure, particularly in front of their home supporters. PSG have lost four Ligue 1 games this season (W20 D3), their third-highest tally after 27 games in 15 seasons under QSI (since 2011-12), behind 2012-13 (five) and 2020-21 (six).
PSG have, however, scored in their last 46 home Ligue 1 games, the longest current streak in the top five European leagues. The last time they failed to score at the Parc des Princes in the league was on August 12, 2023, against Lorient in Luis Enrique’s first match in charge (0-0).
Lyon, meanwhile, won just one of their last seven Ligue 1 matches (D3 L3), but that was their most recent game against Lorient (2-0). They have not won any of their last four away Ligue 1 games (D2 L2) after winning the previous three, though.
