Michael Carrick to sign permanent contract as Manchester United manager

Since taking over from Ruben Amorim as an interim solution at Manchester United in January, Michael Carrick has completely transformed the team into one capable of competing at the top of English football, winning 10 from 15 Premier League matches played, drawing three and losing only twice.

United have qualified for the Champions League next season, sitting third with 65 points, three more than Aston Villa in fourth with a game in hand as they prepare to host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has been reached on Carrick signing a permanent contract, valid for either two years with an option to extend by a further year, or for three years straight – that detail is yet to be trashed out. After weeks of the club working in that direction, the plan has been approved by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

United have reportedly considered other options as well, such as Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola, whose contracts at Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, respectively, expire at the end of the season, but Carrick has obviously deserved a proper chance to try and put the 20-time English champions back on the paths of former glory.
