Real Madrid consider Enzo Fernandez and Adam Wharton as Rodri alternatives

Manchester City midfielder Rodri recently revealed he would be open to returning to Spain in the near future and playing for Real Madrid, despite previously representing their city rivals Atletico. His words have reportedly sparked Real’s interest and according to Mundo Deportivo, they are expected to try for his services this summer, but in case he proves unobtainable, they’ve lined up alternative targets in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

It seems Real are not exactly happy with how the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga or Arda Guler, have stepped into the midfield mix after the end of the legendary Casemiro-Kroos-Modric era, and though they expect great things to come from Thiago Pitarch, it’s obvious the 18-year-old is not yet ready to take on such a heavy burden. Only Federico Valverde is considered to be at the right level at this point.

They will, therefore, seek to sign a top-class midfielder this summer, and though Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai has been mentioned in that aspect recently, it seems they’ve set their sights on Rodri first, and Fernandez and Wharton as second-choice options.
