Hansi Flick has confirmed he has reached an agreement to renew his contract with LaLiga giants Barcelona until 2028.
Flick has led the Blaugrana to back-to-back titles, with Sunday’s win over Clasico rivals Real Madrid giving them an unassailable 14-point lead at the top with three games to play.
The former Bayern Munich boss is only the fourth coach to win LaLiga in each of his first two seasons with Barca this century, after Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde.
His previous contract with Barca was due to expire at the end of 2026-27, but at a press conference to preview Wednesday’s trip to Alaves, he confirmed he had agreed to stay for a further year.
“I think a lot of coaches would only be happy to sign on a three or four-year deal. But in the case of Barca, it is better to limit it,” Flick said.
“We will continue until 2028 and, if all goes well, we will make the decision to continue for another year.
It is also a commitment on our part. Next season will be even more demanding, because we want to reach new goals and win more titles.
“Everyone dreams of the Champions League and we will try again. I feel very grateful.”
After visiting Alaves, Barca host Real Betis and go to Valencia in their final two games. After that, Flick’s attention will turn to the transfer window.
“We are clear about what positions both I and the board of directors need to strengthen,” he added.
“We’ve been talking about it a lot these last weeks and months, but it’s still a job we haven’t finished doing.”

Barca’s title triumph came on the same day that Flick’s father passed away, with the Blaugrana coach still taking his place on the touchline and appearing visibly emotional during the post-match celebrations.
And the events of recent days have only deepened his attachment to the club, as he said: “During these last few days, I have been able to verify that I am in the right place.
“It has been a very positive agreement for both parties and they have shown me that this is the place where I want to be.”
Should Barca win their remaining league games, Flick would become only the third coach in LaLiga history to oversee a 100-point season.
Jose Mourinho (Real Madrid, 2011-12) and Tito Vilanova (2012-13) are the only coaches to have previously achieved the feat.
Flick added: “Now the objective is to reach 100 points and, therefore, we have to win the three remaining matches. We’ve celebrated a lot, but we can also keep playing well.”
Alaves have plenty to play for as they sit 18th in the table, occupying the final relegation place but only two points behind Girona.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Alaves – Toni Martinez
Martinez has scored seven goals in nine LaLiga appearances since Quique Sanchez Flores took charge of Alaves in March, as many as he managed in his previous 51 games in the competition.
Barcelona – Ferran Torres
Ferran has scored 21 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions this season.
That is his best return in a single campaign across the five big European leagues, surpassing his 19 goals for Barcelona last term.
MATCH PREDICTION: BARCELONA WIN
Barcelona have won each of their last 11 LaLiga matches, their best run under Flick.
Only three managers in the club’s history have ever achieved 12 consecutive league victories – Guardiola (a run of 16), Frank Rijkaard (14) and Luis Enrique (12).
The Blaugrana are the Opta supercomputer’s favourites for victory, but it may not be smooth sailing.
Alaves have picked up points in four of their last five home LaLiga matches (W1 D3), though they lost their most recent one 4-2 against Athletic Club. They have not lost consecutive games at the Estadio de Mendizorrotza in the competition since April 2025 (L2).
Barca have also lost two of their last four away LaLiga matches in the Basque Country (W2), twice as many defeats as in their previous 29 such games (W21 D7 L1).
However, Alaves are winless in their last 16 league meetings with Barca, losing the last seven. If they lose here, they will equal their longest losing streak against the Blaugrana in the competition (previously seven in a row from 2017 to 2020).
