Rashford has no future at Manchester United, his parent club, and it seems Barcelona, where he is now playing on loan, are still reluctant to trigger the buy clause embedded in the loan agreement. The situation has attracted the attention of Spurs, who are looking to add fresh but proven quality to their attacking ranks.
Having appointed Roberto De Zerbi ahead of initial schedule, Spurs managed to earn a hard-fought victory over last-placed Wolves a few days ago, but their situation is sill pretty much dire. De Zerbi’s team still linger below the red line, topping the relegation zone with 34 points from as many games played. They trail 17th-placed West Ham by two.
Spurs are widely expected to raise their standards significantly next season – if, again, they stay in the Premier League – but Rashford, at the age of 28, would surely rather continue fighting for silverware on all fronts with Barcelona, than be involved in a rebuilding project in North London.
